Virgin Media and 02 merger: Millions of UK customers could be affected by new deal

It looks like two of the largest internet service providers and one of the biggest mobile networks in the UK will be joining forces.

Mobile service operator O2 and internet service provider Virgin Media are to merge, according to an announcement published this morning.

The two companies have announced a merger that will create one of the UK's largest entertainment companies, rivalling other telecom companies such as BT, Vodaphone and EE.

Liberty Global, the company that owns Virgin Media, and Telefonica, the O2 parent company, announced this morning that they have agreed the terms for the 50-50 joint venture.
