UK is set to be battered by staggering gale force winds today which will blast mild temperatures away and prepare us for a white weekend of snow.Gusts are expected to surpass 80km/h today in what could be one of the windiest days of the year.WX Charts forecast that, due to a low pressure system working its way towards us from the Atlantic, northern parts of England could see chilly gusts of 82km/h by the afternoon.

Scotland and Northern Ireland will be bombarded by gusts of around 70 to 75km/h, whereas wind speeds in southern regions should peak in the 60s.Terry Scholey, a Netweather meteorologist, said: "As an active depression approaches Northern Ireland from the west, all parts see a southerly wind freshening after dark."The chill.
