Russia have been draped from the white stone building's balconies with squatters pictured behind them. Police pulled up outside mega-rich Oleg Deripaska's home in the capital's posh corner of Belgrave Square, near Knightsbridge on Monday morning.
Defiant protesters demonstrating against Russia's invasion of Ukraine have proudly rolled out notices on bedsheets with one telling Vladimir Putin to "f*** off".The banners read: "This property has been liberated", "Putin go f*** yourself" and "power breed parasites".Squatters have also seized the opportunity to hang the blue and yellow national flag of Ukraine from a window on the luxury pad's second storey.
Mr Deripaska, who has stakes in energy and metals company En+ Group, is one of the seven Russian oligarchs with business empires, wealth and connections that are closely associated with the Kremlin who have been sanctioned by the UK Government.He is also thought to be one of Russia's richest people.
Parked outside the cordoned off building is a Metropolitan Police van and behind it another Met vehicle. People have broken into Deripaska's home just 24 hours after cabinet minister Michael Gove told the BBC’s Sunday Morning programme that the UK properties of sanctioned Russians could be used by the government.Mr Gove said: "I want to explore an option which would allow us to use the homes and properties of sanctioned individuals – as long as they are sanctioned – for humanitarian and other purposes."There’s quite a high legal bar to cross and we’re not talking about permanent confiscation."But we are saying: 'you’re sanctioned, you’re supporting Putin, this home is here, you have no right to use or profit from it – and more than that, while you are not using or profiting from.
