Britain is set for several days of plummeting temperatures as a cold snap engulfs most of the country amid continued downpours.
The rain front which has plagued Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of England started to fragment overnight, though temperatures dropped to as low as 3C in the north.
And while central England could see patchy rain through today, above and below it there will be far more settled weather with bright sunshine by the afternoon. "A widespread frost forming - more widely than we've seen of late - and temperatures below freezing fairly widely, and some fog forming," Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said, talking about tonight.
