Police break up huge crowds in Cardiff as streets covered in rubbish and 'hippy crack'

Police were called to break up a huge mass gathering in Cardiff Bay during the night Hundreds of people were seen lining the steps of Roald Dahl Plass, which were left covered with glass bottles and plastic cups.

The area sits just yards from The Senedd building - which houses the debating chamber for the Welsh Parliament. The incident happened from around 9pm on Friday, June 26 until after midnight on Saturday.

Rubbish left in the area by revellers included beer cans and bottles, as well as nitrous oxide gas cannisters commonly used as a recreational drug and refereed to as "hippy crack".

One local resident, who asked not to be named, described the behaviour of those who attended as “appalling”. He said around 300 people were in the area
