Penguin chicks have hatched at Chester Zoo – and zookeepers have named them after NHS heroes. The first of the fluffy chicks arrived on March 26, with four more following in the weeks after.
To help keep track of the new penguins, conservationists at the Cheshire zoo select a different naming theme for the youngsters each year.
And this year, with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the forefront of everyone's minds, there was only one option. Keepers have recognised the amazing work of the UK’s health service and have named them after NHS heroes and the hospitals they work at.
The five chicks have been named Florence (after Florence Nightingale), Thomas (after St Thomas’ Hospital), Bevan (after Aneurin Bevan who founded the NHS),
