NHS founder's successor as MP backs calls for a medal for coronavirus heroes

The Labour MP now representing the seat once held by NHS founder Aneurin Bevan tonight backs the Mirror's campaign to give a medal to health heroes battling coronavirus.

Nick Smith is the MP for the Blaenau Gwent constituency, which was created in 1983 and includes Bevan's old seat of Ebbw Vale.

Bevan was MP for the town from 1929 until 1960 and, as Health Minister in 1948, created the NHS. We want a medal to honour the brave health service staff serving on the Covid-19 frontline.
