Rita Ora has paid tribute to her mum Vera as the NHS celebrates its 72nd birthday today. The Hot Right Now singer, 29, said she was "so proud" of her mum, who has been working as a nurse throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Taking to Instagram, Rita shared a photo of Vera in her nurse's scrubs alongside old black and white pictures from the health service's early days.

Included in the collection of snaps was a photo of Aneurin Bevan, who launched the NHS when he worked as Health Minister in Clement Attlee's post-war Labour Government.

Rita said she would be joining in tonight's clap to mark the special anniversary. In the snaps her mum beamed for the camera as she sat working hard on her laptop.
