Ministry of Defence refuses to release key report into Royal Navy support ships

Defence chiefs will keep secret a report into the impact of handing a £550million deal for Navy refuelling tankers to a foreign firm.

The Tories gave the contract for four Tide-force vessels to Daewoo in South Korea in 2012 – despite warnings the move would cost British jobs.

Penny Mordaunt ordered an investigation into the deal when she was Defence Secretary for three months last summer. She said learning lessons from the contract could have an impact on a separate £1.5billion deal for three Navy supply vessels.

MPs, unions and campaigners fear the contract for those Fleet Solid Support ships could also go abroad – jeopardising thousands of UK jobs.
