Warner Mack was a country singer and songwriter known for hits including “Is it Wrong (For Loving You)” and “The Bridge Washed Out.”Mack was just 13 years old when he wrote the song that would become his first hit.
But he didn’t record “Is it Wrong (For Loving You)” until almost 10 years later, in 1957. Mack made it to the top ten of the country music chart with his debut single, and “Is it Wrong (For Loving You)” became a standard of the genre, charting again in cover versions by Webb Pierce in 1960 and Sonny James in 1972.
After a largely unsuccessful foray into rockabilly in the late ‘50s, Mack turned back to more traditional country music and scored a No.
1 hit in 1965 with “The Bridge Washed Out.” His other hits in the ‘60s and ‘70s included “Sittin’ in an All Nite Cafe,” “Talkin’ to the Wall,” and “Live for the Good Times.” But even as he was experiencing his greatest success, Mack was suffering from the effects of a 1964 car accident.
