Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount is expected to stay at the club for the 2024/25 season. United signed Mount from Chelsea for an initial £55million last summer and he made just five Premier League starts in a disappointing first season in Manchester.

The 25-year-old was brought to Old Trafford to play a deeper midfield role, but he picked up an injury in his second game for United and sustained a different calf issue in November.

It took Mount four months to recover from that problem and he returned to fitness in March. Mount marked his return from injury with a goal against Brentford in a 1-1 draw on March 30 but was absent due to injury again at the end of the league campaign. He received a cameo at Wembley and lifted a trophy, but that triumph signalled the end of a challenging year for Mount. On the back of a disappointing first season at United, there have been claims Mount could be sold this summer, but the Manchester Evening News understands he is expected to stay beyond the transfer window and fight to earn a starring role in Erik ten Hag's strongest team.
