could unleash a deadly virus as Ukrainian scientists have been told to destroy all "high-threat" lab diseases as a matter of urgency.
The World Health Organisation said that the most deadly pathogens in Ukraine's labs should be eliminated as there is a risk of "potential spills" as Russia continues to brutally bomb the country.As is the case in many other countries, the Ukraine government has been carrying out research on how they could improve the threats of the most dangerous diseases.WHO said it was been collaborating with Ukrainian labs for a number of years to promote security practises that will help prevent "accidental or deliberate release of pathogens".Ukrainian scientists have now been urged to wipe out all "high-threat" pathogens to avoid an potentially fatal incident.The WHO said: "As part of this work, WHO has strongly recommended to the Ministry of Health in Ukraine and other responsible bodies to destroy high-threat pathogens to prevent any potential spills."The UN agency has not provided any specific details about the toxins and pathogens in Ukraine's labs.Ukraine's labs have been the subject of an information war since Russia invaded the country a fortnight ago.
Maria Zakharova, Russian foreign ministry spokesperson, earlier this week repeated the claim that the US is running a biowarfare lab in Ukraine.
