Vladimir Putin if they want to play at Wimbledon this summer. Sport Minister Nigel Huddleston discussed restrictions for Russian and Belarusian athletes last week during a meeting with national governing bodies.
Individual athletes from either of the two countries who intend to appear at SW19 under a "neutral" banner must provide assurances they do not receive cash from those outcasted nations.Anyone wishing to play at Wimbledon must also confirm they will not announce their support of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which began earlier this month.
They will also be prohibited from wearing their nation's colours or competing under a flag. Huddleston said: "I had a good meeting with various governing bodies about what we are doing in terms of sanctions and bans for individual athletes.
If Russians or Belarusians wish to participate in a UK sport then they have to be independent and neutral and genuinely so. "We wish to get the assurance of that in a written declaration that they are not receiving money from Putin, Russia or Belarus.
