There, some of the leading politicians in Russia rubbed shoulders with the footballing world, with the likes of Pele and Maradona all shaking hands with the Russian supremos.
And, at the ceremony in the Red Square, former Barcelona player Eto’o took a quite brilliant picture of himself and Putin. With the Cameroon legend grinning widely, Putin, spearheader of the current war ongoing in Ukraine, has a face of thunder.
Eto'o got himself in hot water earlier this month for his remarks ahead of Cameroon’s clash with Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final.The 40-year-old made a speech following his nation’s 2-0 win over Gambia where he compared the tie with Egypt as “war.”Footage of the speech went viral - but Egypt boss Carlos Queiroz was unhappy with the language used to fire up the Cameroon side."It's a very unfortunate comment, a very bad approach, a very bad message to the people of Cameroon," Queiroz said."To make this declaration of war before one game [shows he] didn't learn anything when he was in professional football.Do you remember any other awkward photos from sport?
