Voters in the capital will choose who they want to be the London Mayor on Thursday, May 2. Labour's Sadiq Khan is seeking a historic third term in office, having first been elected London Mayor in 2016.
Londoners will also vote for who they want to represent them in the London Assembly on the same day. Elsewhere, new councillors will be elected across more than 100 local authorities in England and Wales.
Regional mayors are also being elected in Greater Manchester and the West Midlands, while several areas will be able to vote for police and crime commissioners. READ MORE: Full list of local elections 2024 and mayoral votes taking across UK in May The mayor of London is in charge of an annual budget of around £20 billion - made up of central government grants, transport fares, business rates and council tax - and has responsibilities in areas such as policing, transport, housing and green policies.
A total of 13 candidates are standing in the 2024 mayoral election. Mr Khan's main competition will be Conservative candidate Susan Hall, a former leader of the London Assembly Conservative group.
