People across the city of Salford have taken part in the Salford City mayoral election. It is the fourth time the election for a Mayor of Salford has taken place with Ian Stewart first being elected in 2012.
Since then the position has been held by Paul Dennett. All registered electors living in the city of Salford aged 18 or over were eligible to vote in the mayoral election.
The City Mayor leads the council and has overall responsibility for the delivery of all council services. It is different to the mayor of Greater Manchester who has powers and responsibilities for the whole of the region - including Salford - in relation to transport, economic development, provision of skills training and housing.
The City Mayor is typically elected for a period of four years, with no limit to the number of terms served. The candidates who stood in this year's mayoral election were incumbent Paul Dennett (Labour), Jillian Collinson (Conservative), Sally Griffiths (Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition) and David Jones (Green).
