Tropical storm Kyle is set to run riot across Britain bringing 55mph winds and ushering in an "early autumn" as the heatwave is blown away.

Forecasters say the thunderstorms that have blighted the UK for days are set to come to an end tonight - only to be replaced by a four-day battering from the 900-mile-wide tempest.

Despite summer not officially finishing until September 1, Thursday will see the introduction of strong wind and downpours - with August to then remain wet and windy, according to The Met Office.
