Torrential downpours have hit homes and businesses and more extreme weather is highly likely. The public and holidaymakers are being urged to stay away after two days of flash floods in parts of Devon.
Some areas were under three feet of water and North Devon MP Selaine Saxby said the situation was dangerous. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said it had received at least 60 calls for help because of the downpours in Barnstaple.
Tracey Benson, landlady of the Golden Lion Tap, said water levels in the town had risen to about three feet and water creeping up had appeared just below their windows.
