Scots Britain's Got Talent winner Jai McDowell opens up on financial struggles and bankruptcy following show success

ITV Britain's Got Talent winner Jai McDowell has revealed he was on the brink of bankruptcy after winning the show.The Ayrshire born singer won the TV talent competition back in 2011 and was awarded the £100,000 prize.

He was crowned champion in front of 13 million viewers, but has now revealed he suffered years of lows following the win.Jai admitted his experience on Britain's Got Talent was "great" and he started off with a year of "all the work" and "all the good things".However, his life and career started to take a turn after just eight months.

He shared how his one album deal wasn't renewed, which still remains "quite a difficult thing" for him to deal with. Jai has confessed he struggled with being a "normal guy" to having fame from being on national television, reports the Mirror. "People know your name before you know theirs and it's such a mindf*** that it's so hard to deal with," he told The Sun.

Jai remained cautious as he shot to stardom, opting to have early nights that wild evenings out.He has said he did "ok" from the show and is still working 13 years on, however recalled the "dramatic drop" in his career. "It came to a point where, on paper, you're asset rich," Jai said. "But I was cash poor."The singer moved back in with his parents and despite having his own property, he "had no money".Jai revealed the "grit and determination" it took to overcome his financial struggles after finding himself £200,000 in debt.The former BGT star considered bankruptcy but was fortunate to have a support network to help him through the difficult time.Now a member of operatic quartet G4, Jai recently opened up about his experience following the ITV show.
