As this year’s Britain’s Got Talent series nears the grand final, ITV bosses are looking at giving the show a huge cash boost - rumoured to be worth around £100 million – and changing the format of the series so it runs for longer next year.
In recent years, the show has run for around six to seven weeks from mid-April to the beginning of June, but the new plan is for BGT to start in February and be on air for three months.
This would fill the gap left by the end of Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, and the cash injection would be used to make the show bigger and possibly even better than BBC series Strictly Come Dancing.
BGT is currently produced by Thames, and the current five year contract between Thames and ITV ends next year. ITV is expected to extend the contract of the successful show for another three or five years, especially as the series has been receiving an impressive 24 billion views of clips from the series online, a figure that is very appealing to online advertisers.
