mountain on her staircase is nearing the end of her mammoth challenge. Margaret Payne, from Drumbeg, Sutherland, wanted to pay thanks to NHS heroes who helped care for her late husband prior to his death last year.
Despite having two knee replacements, the great-grandmother decided to climb 2398ft - the height of nearby munro Suilven - using the 17 stairs in her house.
Margaret launched a fundraising page which smashed it’s original target and has raised almost £340,000 so far. The funds will be shared with Highland Hospice, NHS Highland and the RNLI once the plucky pensioner finishes climbing her stairs 282 times.
Highland Hospice revealed that Margaret has only 40 flights left to go before she reaches the top of the ‘munro’.They tweeted:.
