Rob Cross channelled his inner Jose de Sousa with a horrendous miscount against the Portuguese at the Ladbrokes Masters.De Sousa, 47, has gained an unwanted reputation for his poor maths and made headlines during last month's world darts championship after making a pig's ear of 88 against Alan Soutar.

But this time, the shoe was on the other foot - and the dart in the wrong double - as Cross made a mess of checking out 16.The incident occurred in the 12th leg of their second round clash at the season-opening tournament in Milton Keynes.

Cross had put himself in a commanding position to win the leg after scoring 168 to leave himself needing double eight. With three darts in hand to win the leg, Voltage stuck his first two efforts on the outside of the double. His third went inside to leave him needing double four on his return visit - not that it seemed to register with Cross.

After De Sousa failed to pin 105, Cross returned to the board and targeted double eight, not the double four he required. As the camera zoomed in on the double four he actually needed, Cross checked out D8 and assumed he had won the leg. Who will win the 2022 Ladbrokes Masters?
