Police confirmed that the body of a man aged in his 60s was found in the River Irwell in Bury. Emergency services rushed to the scene near Jubilee Way in the town centre just after 4pm yesterday afternoon (Monday) to a 'report of a concern for the welfare of a man in the water'.
Tragically, a man's body was discovered. Officers have confirmed that the man was aged in his 60s, but no further details have been released about him.

Pictures taken at the scene yesterday showed a footpath close to the water cordoned off. Police officers were spotted guarding both ends.
