Doechii, Barry Can’t Swim, Ezra Collective, Jorja Smith, The Last Dinner Party and more have been announced as performers for Bristol’s FORWARDS festival 2025.The two-day event is due to take place at Clifton Downs in Bristol on Saturday August 23 and Sunday August 24.Now, the first wave of acts and headliners have been announced, with Barry Can’t Swim, Ezra Collective, Confidence Man, Orbital, Mount Kimbie, English Teacher, Happy Mondays, Katy J Pearson, Ishmael Ensemble and the Rituals Orchestra and Mermaid Chunky all set to take to the stage on the first day.The following day will see performances from Doechii, Jorja Smith, The Last Dinner Party, Olivia Dean, Fabio & Grooverider Orchestra and the Outlook Orchestra, Moonchild Sannelly, The Silhouettes Project, Almeda and Snapped Ankles.Described in a press release as a “future-thinking festival”, FORWARDS also features “major social initiatives” and “timely debate” alongside music acts from across the world.Pre-sale will begin at 10am GMT on Wednesday (March 5), followed by general sale on Thursday (March 6) at 10am. The upcoming 16th edition of Bearded Theory is due to take place between May 21-25, and will be held in the usual site of Catton Hall, Derbyshire.Back in October, the first wave of artists was confirmed, with Iggy Pop, Manic Street Preachers, and The Sisters Of Mercy locked in as headliners, and other acts taking to the stage including Leftfield, Yard Act, The Mary Wallopers, Ash, CMAT, Nova Twins and Fat Dog.Today (January 13), a second wave of artists has been revealed for this year’s instalment, including Paul Heaton and English Teacher.For Heaton, the upcoming slot at the Derbyshire festival will see the former Housemartins singer take to the stage alongside Rianne Downey, rounding off the Pallet Stage’s impressive lineup of headliners.

Yard Act took over the Woodsies stage at this year’s Glastonbury festival and performed a high-octave set filled with grooves and dance breaks.“What a beautiful day for all of this,” frontman James Smith told the crowd while appearing on stage. The band then jumped into ‘Fixer Upper’, ‘Dead Horse’ and ‘We Make Hits’.

Lady Jane has landed on Prime Video today (June 27) and here’s every song on the show’s soundtrack.The new series is partly based on history, centring on Lady Jane Grey, a Tudor noblewoman who briefly claimed the English and Irish throne in 1553.Known as the ‘Nine-Day Queen’, she was beheaded but in Prime’s new show, “the damsel in distress saves herself.”A synopsis says it is “a radical retelling of English royal history, in which King Henry VIII’s son Edward does not die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Grey is not beheaded, and neither is her rascal of a husband Guildford”.All eight episodes of the show will land on Prime at 8am on June 27 and the series features a cast including Edward Bluemel, Jordan Peters, Dominic Cooper, Anna Chancellor, Rob Brydon, Jim Broadbent, Henry Ashton, Isabella Brownson, Robyn Betteridge, Kate O’Flynn, Abbie Hern, Máiréad Tyers, Joe Klocek and Michael Workeye.Check out the trailer for the new series here:The track listing for the new show can be found below. Automotion have shared a new single called ‘Lost In The Spinal Labyrinth’ – you can listen to it below.The song will appear on the south London group’s upcoming EP ‘Dissolve’, which is due for release on June 19.Produced and mixed by Patrick James Fitzroy (PVA, Sorry, Katy J Pearson), ‘Lost In The Spinal Labyrinth’ takes the listener through various rhythms, riffs and tones across its six-and-a-half minutes.It is described as being “sometimes subdued and tranquil, [and] at other times heavy and ominous”.In a statement, frontman Jesse Hitchman said: “[‘Lost In The Spinal Labyrinth’] flows through many moods and sonic landscapes to create an interwoven journey with vocals that are both melodic and eerie.”Tune in here:Automation are comprised of Hitchman, guitarist Gallagher (son of former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher) bassist Finton Eatwell-Hurst and drummer Otis Eatwell-Hurst.They’ll play a headline show at The Lexington in London on June 19 to launch their ‘Dissolve’ EP. Yard Act have shared a new single called ‘When The Laughter Stops’ featuring Katy J Pearson – check out the video below.The song is the latest preview of the Leeds band’s second album ‘Where’s My Utopia?’, which is due for release on March 1 via Island (pre-order/pre-save here).“The sentiment of the lyrics gets to the heart of ‘Where’s My Utopia?’ almost immediately, and finds the cynicism first spawned from the same circumstance I found myself in during [2023 track] ‘Dream Job’ now giving way to a more genuine sliver of misery,” explained frontman James Smith.“Fortunately – spoiler alert – I’ve managed to find a way out of this pit, for the time being.”He continued: “Whilst the lyrics came quick, musically it went through the wringer.

Automotion have shared a new single called ‘Liquify’ – check it out below.The rampant new track is the first the band have shared since their latest EP, ‘Artificial Ascent’ – and sees them capture the same essence of old school Jungle tracks.As highlighted by a press release, ‘Liquify’ sees the South London four-piece – comprised of frontman Jesse Hitchman, bassist Finton Eatwell-Hurst, drummer Otis Eatwell-Hurst and guitarist Lennon Gallagher (son of Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher) – utilise a “rampant and complex labyrinth of quick riffs and eclectic vocals”, and experiment with an assortment of different genres.“The inspiration for the track came from an old school Jungle dance track yet through the process of writing has become so far removed from its influence that it has a life of its own,” Hitchman said of the inspiration behind ‘Liquify’. He also explained that the song was “driven by the tension between the desire to create something new and having personal taste”.The single also sees the band team up with Faris Badwan (lead vocalist of The Horrors) for production duties and Patrick James Fitzroy (PVA, Sorry, Katy J Pearson), who mixed the track.

Check it all out below, along with our interview with frontman James Smith.The follow-up to the Leeds band’s acclaimed Mercury-nominated 2022 debut ‘The Overload‘ will arrive 1 March, 2024, with the first taster coming in the form of the self-analytical but danceable ‘Where’s My Utopia?’ – in which Smith wrestles with feeling “very privileged but also struggling” to be in a successful band.“‘Dream Job’ arrives midway through the narrative arc of the album, but it picks up where the band left off at the end of last year when I’d finally had time to contemplate everything that had happened to us,” Smith told NME.

Aphex Twin and Erykah Badu are heading up the line-up for this year’s Forwards Festival.The “festival for forward thinkers” will return to Bristol’s Clifton Downs from September 1-2 after making its debut last year.Bonobo, RAYE, Confidence Man, Olivia Dean, Biig Piig and Wesley Joseph are set to perform on the Friday, with Aphex Twin topping the bill. Meanwhile, the Saturday will see the likes of Primal Scream, Arlo Parks, Leftfield and Amyl and the Sniffers play.

Portishead performed live last night (May 2) for the first time in seven years as part of a War Child UK benefit gig for Ukraine at O2 Academy in Bristol.Marking the first time the trio had played a show since their 2015 appearance at Benicàssim Festival, Portishead performed five songs – ‘Mysterons’, ‘Wandering Star’ and ‘Roads’ from 1997’s ‘Dummy’, and ‘Magic Doors’ and ‘The Rip’ from 2008’s ‘Third’.Elsewhere on the bill were headliners IDLES along with sets by Billy Nomates, Katy J Pearson, Heavy Lungs, Willie J Healy and Wilderman. Billy Nomates aka Tor Maries has today (April 12) shared an emotive new single – listen to ‘Blue Bones’ below.The track comes accompanied by a new video that is directed by Tia Salisbury and features comedian Spencer Jones. It’s described as “a humorous yet emotional video about coming to the end of a relationship.”Speaking about the new track, Maries said it’s related to her experience of suffering from depression.Maries explained: “Like everything I write, after I’ve written it I spend the following months unravelling what it’s about.“I think ‘Blue Bones’ is a candid conversation with my own depression.

Portishead, IDLES and Billy Nomates have been announced to perform at a special War Child concert in Bristol for Ukraine.They will be joined by Katy J Pearson, Heavy Lungs and Wilderman for the HELP! gig at the city’s O2 Academy on Bank Holiday Monday on May 2.Tickets will only be available through a £10 prize draw, which will be made at 12pm today (April 7) until April 25, when all winners will be chosen at random.
