A campaign group fighting for the restoration of over-75s' free TV licences tonight begins balloting members for a plan to boycott the £157.50-a-year fee.
Silver Voices believes the dramatic move could help force the BBC and Government to thrash out a solution after 3.7 million pensioners were robbed of the benefit.
It will ask its more than 3,000 members to approve the measure, with results due next week. The poll comes two days after director Dennis Reed branded talks with BBC boss Tim Davie about the over-75s' concession “a waste of time” after the corporation chief rebuffed pleas to let elderly people pay less than the full amount, or bring back free licences altogether.
