March warm spell now 'over' as temperatures plummet back to freezing this week

weather is set to revert back to chilly temperatures as the warm spell finally comes to an end, say forecasters.Lucky Brits have been lapping up the sun and 20C highs over the last few days as the arrival of spring gave hope of end to frosty morning and freezing nights.But new data from the UK's leading forecasting agencies suggests that we will have to consider piling on the layers again as soon as tomorrow (29 March) — and may even need to think about getting out our snow boots.Sleet and snow are possible on higher ground by the end of the week, according to Met Office's new blog.Detailing a shift towards "colder and unsettled" weather this week, Met Office Chief Meteorologist Neil Armstrong said: “We’re going to be seeing a marked shift in the weather for the UK in the coming week as the warm weather is displaced south.“Temperatures will drop as cold air sweeps south with single figure maxima for most places from mid-week, and bringing with it the unsettled weather that we’ll see for much of the week.

Some clear spells are still around later in the week, with the best of any sunshine likely to be in the south later in the week.”Things are expected to get especially cold on Thursday, according to the national forecaster, with lows of 0C arriving in many areas by the evening.Speaking to the Express at the weekend, meteorologist Jim Dale from British Weather Services explained: "The outlook for the next week to week and a half, particularly in the North or the West, is cold."By the time we get to mid-week next week, Wednesday into Thursday and Friday, I think it will feel quite cold across most of the country.He also revealed that "frosts are coming back in" and will be "quite hard" into Scotland.For the latest breaking.
