Cops arrest 4th of July parade shooter responsible for killing six people
Police have arrested Robert E Crimo III, the suspected shooter behind the July 4 massacre that left six people dead.The 22-year-old suspect opened fire from a rooftop at the parade in the suburb of Highland Park in Chicago just after 10am on Monday morning.According to NBC Chicago Reporter, Mary Ann Ahern, Robert was arrested and taken into custody at around 12:30am (UK time).READ MORE: Multiple people gunned down as shooter fired into parade 'from rooftop'She tweeted: "Highland Park suspect Robert Crimo apprehended in North Chicago after pursuit."It comes after Highland Park Police earlier surrounded Robert's family home as they searched for him in a massive manhunt. Chief Lou Jogmen said Robert was taken into custody without incident and charges were pending as police continue to investigate.Lake County Major Crimes Task Force spokesman Chris Covelli said: "So far, there is no reason to believe there was more than one shooter."The shooting in Highland Park, about 25 miles north of Chicago, began shortly after 10am on Monday (July 4) as parade-goers enjoyed a Fourth of July parade along Central Avenue.Authorities said a rifle was recovered from the scene where at least 25 people were shot, ranging in age from eight to 85.The suspect is believed to have fired at members of the public from the rooftop of a nearby shop.
