Firefighters rescued three people from a barge after it apparently got stuck in the Rochdale Canal. Two adults and a child were taken to safety after the boat got into difficulties in Failsworth, Oldham.

Firefighters came to their aid by laying an inflatable walkway from the barge to the towpath. An onlooker said it appeared the vessel had got fast on something below the surface of the water while attempting to negotiate a bend in the canal near Tesco, off Oldham Road, on Sunday evening.
