BBC’s Garden Rescue have criticised a “nightmare” makeover, where a couple’s outside space was transformed into a mediterranean-style patio for £6000.The episode was originally broadcast in June last year, but a replay was shown on Tuesday night (February 8).At the start of the programme, Ben and Shelley explained that they hated their current patio, and described how they wanted a larger area to sit and have food on sunny days. The couple then outlined their plans for a mediterranean landscape in their suburban garden, hoping to mimic scenes in Italy and France. And, with two small daughters, the pair were also hoping for an area that suited their children’s outdoor play requirements. So, with a sizable budget of £6000, expectations were high for what the Rich brothers could produce. However, when the final reveal came around at the end of the programme, viewers were shocked.Pictures showed a slightly barren courtyard, with various planted trees and plants, and the grassy area reduced by over half its initial size. One Twitter user didn’t hold back, suggesting: “That has to be the most awful garden ever… just what the kids need; not to be able to run around in a pathetic stony waste of a garden.”Another commented: “That’s a nightmare garden #gardenrescue - too much going on and too much growing out of the gravel.”Despite the outcry on social media, Ben and Shelley appeared to be pleased when they were shown the finished product.“Wow… I cannot believe you did this,” Ben said.Shelley agreed, observing: “It’s beautiful, look at the apple tree, and the boulders.

I love it all.”“It looks like a completely different garden, I know everyone says that, but it really does.”The former sloped greenery had been replaced with steps.
