Transport secretary Grant Shapps has confirmed that the popular European spot, which was one of just 12 countries and territories given the green light for holidays when the travel ban was lifted last month, will move to the amber list following the first review of the new traffic light system.
It means people in Portgual must self-isolate at home for 10 days when they return to the UK, while the official government advice will now be that only essential visits should be made to the country.
