Steven Spielberg's iconic 1975 hit Jaws was due to air on Nine Network's digital multi-channel 9Go the following day, but was pulled as news of the tragedy dominated headlines both in Australia and around the world.
The thriller, based on a 1974 novel by Peter Benchley, follows beachgoers in the US as a summer resort town is terrorised by a man-eating great white.
The carnage see's Roy Scheider's character, police chief Martin Brody, hunt for the beast with the help of a marine biologist and a professional shark hunter (played by Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw respectively).
