Yarmouth racing abandoned after horse suffers fatal injury and jockey is hospitalised

Racing at Yarmouth was abandoned on Monday after a horse died and a jockey was reportedly knocked unconscious. Lord Chapelfield was in third place around half a furlong from the finish line when he dramatically fell and was sadly unable to be saved.

Jockey Gabriele Malune was rushed to hospital but was discharged shortly afterwards, with his injuries fortunately proving to not be serious.

Following an inspection to the course, the decision was made to abandon for the day due to a 'false patch' on the ground. Clerk of the course Richard Aldous said: "The jockeys were not happy with the ground, there was a divet we found where the horse went down.
