Russian forces as Putin’s invasion force seeks to establish a pro-Russia puppet administration in the territory it has captured.
And now a shocking report from Ukrainian political pressure group The Honest Movement claims the number of officials abducted by Russia could be as high as 13.
Ivan Fedorov, the mayor of Melitopol in southeastern Ukraine, was held for five days by Russian troops. He said he could hear sounds of torture coming from other cells. “Five soldiers were with me in the interrogation room,” he told French television channel BFM TV.“I heard cries of people being tortured in the cell next door," Fedorov added. "I understood their degree of violence because human lives do not matter for them".He said it was clear that his captors had been poorly trained for their mission.“They weren’t prepared at all.
They didn’t know anything about Ukraine and the city of Melitopol. They asked me questions about how the city budget is formed, or ‘who are the opinion leaders?'“They said they wanted to liberate the city from the Nazis, they wanted to defend the Russian language,” he added.“I told them 95% of us speak Russian already and nobody’s stopping us, so there’s no problem”.Fedorov was later released in exchange for nine Russian POWs.
