There are 163 dramas, 95 comedies and 51 limited/anthology series that have been submitted — down from 171 dramas, 118 comedies and 61 limited/anthology series last year. That’s still a lot of TV, but with fewer contenders comes the possibility of more dark horses getting noticed.

Naman Ramachandran A first teaser has been unveiled for Canadian filmmaker Pier-Philippe Chevigny’s debut feature “Temporaries” (“Richelieu”), which will bow at the Tribeca Festival followed by the Karlovy Vary Film Festival and Fantasia International Film Festival. The film follows Ariane (Ariane Castellanos), who moves back home to the Richelieu Valley after a breakup and gets a job as an interpreter for seasonal migrant workers in a factory. Witnessing workplace abuses perpetrated by Stephane (Marc-André Grondin), the factory’s aggressive supervisor, Ariane must decide how far she is willing to go to speak out against injustice. Chevigny grew up in the Richelieu Valley in Quebec and observing migrant workers there informed the film. “My first feature aims to question the image of Canada as a perfect, injustice-free country. Launching at Tribeca, Karlovy Vary and Fantasia matters because it gives the weight of international attention to that criticism: it’s harder to ignore the noise when the rest of the world is showing concern,” Chevigny told Variety.

Succession series finale thinking of Shiv Roy (Sarah Snook) as some kind of tragic feminist hero, I have to wonder if you, like Logan Roy, have a hard time .  lamenting Shiv’s demotion from “contender” to “wife-of” as a betrayal of ideals, or which frame her last-minute change of vote as principled bravery, flatten a layered female character into a women’s empowerment archetype—which she absolutely is not. This content can also be viewed on the site it from.Shiv is every bit as striving, corrupt, fallible, weak, and ultimately unserious (just as human, in other words) as her brothers. But while  viewers are ready to empathize with Kendall and Roman while fully acknowledging their essential awfulness, Shiv is perpetually cast as either straight villain or unsung hero.

Roger Waters has shared a statement in which he calls the recent controversy over his Berlin gig a “smear” aiming to “silence” him.This week, it was revealed that the former Pink Floyd member is to be investigated by Berlin police over Nazi-style clothing worn at a recent gig of his in the German capital.The gig came after Waters provoked backlash after making a reference to Anne Frank at one of his earlier concerts in Germany, in which he wore an outfit that some deemed as having connotations to the Second World War.This particular segment of the show revolved around a character from Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’, who imagines himself as a fictional fascist dictator during a hallucination.

Naman Ramachandran Zinc Media label Supercollider has partnered with Idris Elba’s Green Door Pictures and Sabrina Elba’s Pink Towel on documentary series “Paid in Full: The Battle for Payback” (working title) for public broadcasters CBC and BBC. The series (3 x 60′), produced in association with Catalyst, examines the exploitation of Black artists by the music industry and explores what it would look like for Black artists to receive reparations. It documents the extent of the historic injustice suffered by the music industry’s Black artists, including the disparity of profits received by them, despite having created the records that have driven the fabric and culture of popular music. The series will also look at racial inequality in the music industry both today and in the past.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures wraps up its 10-day major retrospective of filmmaker Lourdes Portillo’s work later today, with a screening of her 2001 documentary Missing Young Woman (Señorita Extraviada).

In the Jordan-set film, Nawal (Mouna Hawa), after her husband’s sudden death, finds out that according to local inheritance law, and because she “only” gave birth to a daughter, his family might be entitled to everything she owns, including her home. Out of options, she pretends to be pregnant again.

Ed Meza @edmezavar Prolific German director Jo Baier has officially signed on to write and direct the thriller “Life Through a Dead Man’s Eyes,” about an aging Nazi war criminal on the run from prosecution. The film, produced by Berlin-based Films In Motion in co-production with Banijay’s NL Film in Amsterdam, tells the haunting story of a former Nazi SS death camp guard who tries to evade prosecution by U.S. authorities. In the face of death, he finds himself falling ever deeper into a nightmare that exceeds his worst fears. “Life Through a Dead Man’s Eyes” is set to star Matthias Habich (“Narcissus and Goldmund”) as the former SS henchman and Herbert Knaup (“Sarah Kohr”) as the Nazi hunter on his trail. Also attached is Silke Bodenbender (“One Day We’ll Tell Each Other Everything”).
