Donald McPherson stood trial accused of drowning 47-year-old Paula Leeson, in a swimming pool in a rented property. But Mr McPherson, 47, who denied murder, has been acquitted after the judge directed the jury to return a not guilty verdict.
The judge, Mr Justice Goose, said the prosecution had not provided enough evidence to prove it was murder and not an accident.
