New Hooters bar coming to UK after firm defeats 'prudish bores' to get go-ahead

American bar and restaurant chain Hooters is set to open in the UK – despite protests from raging feminists.The iconic business has chosen Salford to open its second UK branch – the first is based in Nottingham which opened around 19 years ago.Two other branches, in Cardiff and Bristol, closed in 2012, just two years after opening.The chain is known for scantily clad female waitresses and raunchy themes.Opposition to the branch in Salford was headed by a branch of the FiLiA called Womanchester, who said earlier this year: “The entertainment inside Hooters is of a sexual nature.“At a time when rape culture is prevalent in our schools, allowing a bar to open in such close proximity to children seems absurd.“If the entertainment is not seen as sexual, why don’t Hooters employ 'Hooters Boys'?

And why only choose to employ women of a young age, who are deemed to be 'sexy' enough?”However, none of that seemed to matter to Salford City Council's planning department, who approved the new site in Salford Quarys earlier this week.According to the Manchester Evening News, there were 91 objections to the application, including some from Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, Salford and Eccles' Labour MP Rebecca Long Bailey and several feminist groups.The chairman of the licensing panel, Coun John Warmisham, said: “Salford City Council as a licensing authority is required by law to process a premises licence application.“The process is set out in legislation and government guidance with opportunities for interested parties to make representations.“Opinion and personal choice are not relevant or legitimate reasons to refuse an application and decisions are made by the Licensing Panel after careful consideration.”The move by feminists was.
