Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Andy Burnham has said that Boris Johnson should resign as Prime Minister right now and let his deputy Dominic Raab take over for the next few weeks.

The Greater Manchester mayor said the PM's proposal to stay in power until the autumn is not 'tenable' and he should step down immediately.

It comes after Mr Johnson agreed to stand down as Prime Minister in time for a new leader to be in place by the Conservative Party conference in October.

But speaking on his weekly phone-in on BBC Radio Manchester this morning (July 7), Mr Burnham said the Tories should choose a new leader within 'three or four' weeks so a new Prime Minister can be in place by the start of August.
