More than 120 children have tested positive for the coronavirus in Scotland since returning to school. Parents across the UK have raised concerns as the new term starts, with gates in England opening for the first time in months on Tuesday.

Approximately 40 per cent of schools in England welcomed back students today - but tests have already taken place in Scotland.

Children have been back in class since mid-August north of the border despite criticism and requests to delay the return. SNP education boss John Swinney revealed to the Scottish Parliament that 127 pupils across all age groups had contracted Covid-19.

There has so far been no details yet revealed about infection rates across England, Wales and Ireland. It was confirmed 77 pupils
