A group of thieves completed a smash-and-grab raid on a Park Avenue jewelry store early Saturday morning, taking merchandise worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, police said.  New York City Police (NYPD) said that three thieves broke through the glass front of Cellini Jewelers near E. 56th St. at around 3:30 a.m.The group broke three display cases containing hundreds of thousands of dollars-worth of watches and other jewelry.  The thieves escaped in a silver sedan that waited outside the store, completing the entire heist in under three minutes, according to police.

Harrison said he is putting the strike force together for the Shirley area.  "I’m always concerned about retaliation, so putting this strike force together and grabbing officers throughout the county and kind of flooding them in a certain community is our M.O.," Harrison on Monday, according to Newsday.

Concern over rising crime across the country is continuing to grow following a shooting outside the home of New York Republican gubernatorial nominee Lee Zeldin just weeks ahead of the November midterm elections. A New York City police officer was sent to the hospital after being stabbed by a man who allegedly became "combative" and "belligerent." The incident happened on Thursday at about 7:15 a.m. in front of 2349 Andrews Avenue in the Bronx when police responded to a 911 call of a man with a knife, a New York City Police Department spokesperson said. When officers arrived at the scene and began engaging with the man, the spokesperson said that he "became combative/belligerent with the responding officers." The man then allegedly slashed one of the officers in the nose with a knife.
