Jay-Z and Nas‘ scrapped collab song from the ’90s has now gotten an official release through the re-release of Shaquille O’Neal’s third album.The former NBA star’s third studio album – 1996’s ‘You Can’t Stop the Reign’ – has now been made available to stream on streaming platforms. The LP features the track ‘No Love Lost’ which includes the likes of the two rappers alongside fellow NYC MC Lord Tariq.

Nas is set to adapt the classic hip-hop film Beat Street into a new musical for Broadway, alongside the producer of the original film Arthur Baker.Beat Street was released in 1984 and depicted the hip-hop culture of the time in the South Bronx in New York, showcasing the breakdancing, DJing and graffiti synonymous with the scene.And now, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter, legendary NYC rapper Nas will be working on a new stage musical adaptation of the film which is aiming for Broadway.Nas will be creating new material for the show based on the film’s soundtrack and will serve as producer. Baker, who was a co-producer, composer and music producer on the original film, will also produce the musical.Nas announced his involvement this week at a screening on the film at the Tribeca Film Festival.

The Roots have announced the acts for this year’s edition of their annual Roots Picnic festival in Philadelphia.The two-day music festival will return to its usual home of The Mann in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, PA on June 1-2. Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, has died aged 88.He passed away last Friday (December 29) at a hospital in LA and although his cause of death has not been disclosed, his manager Alan Abrahams told NBC News McCann developed pneumonia a week ago.McCann, who is best remembered for 1967 protest song ‘Compared To What’, alongside saxophonist Eddie Harris, was also famous for being sampled by over 300 artists including Warren G., Slick Rick, Cypress Hill, and Nas.Some of his most famous samples include Notorious B.I.G.’s ’10 Crack Commandments’, which uses McCann’s composition ‘Vallarta’, Snoop Dogg and Dr.

YouTube has announced that they will celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop this year by launching the FIFTY DEEP campaign.This month marks 50 years since DJ Kool Herc performed at a party in the Bronx and showed off his DJing invention of scratching records to extend the instrumental breaks in the song. This revelation was the cornerstone for hip-hop as people could dance longer (evolving into breakdancing) and aspiring MCs could rap during song breaks.In honour of the musical milestone, YouTube has launched FIFTY DEEP, “a cultural campaign on YouTube that salutes how far [the genre] come.” Director of Black Music & Culture Tuma Basa wrote a blog post on the new campaign, saying that the mission “is for every generation to dig into the gems of YouTube’s archival treasury of Hip Hop.”They plan to fulfil their mission by collating a visual library of 2,000 videos that “have changed the game” for hip-hop music, having a custom Yoodle (YouTube’s version of the Google Doodle) to pay homage to the phenomenon of type beats, and creating a Google Arts & Culture Hip Hop Hub to collate “a wide range of cultural institutions’ collections and curated stories.”FIFTY DEEP will kick off this Friday (August 11) with a live stream of Hip-Hop 50 Live on Mass Appeal’s official YouTube channel.
