Lil’ Kim biopic is in the works, the rapper has confirmed.Speaking with The New York Post, the rapper confirmed that a new biopic about her life is “absolutely” on the way.While there is no news yet on who will play Kim, (“I don’t know… We’ll have to see”, she responded to the publication’s question) she did confirm that the structure of the biopic would closely mirror her memoir, which is due to arrive later this year.The rapper also teased that the film would be a tell-all, saying “Oh my God. Everyone’s gonna know things that they’ve never known.”Lil’ Kim has penned her upcoming memoir with journalist and author Kathy Iandoli (God Save the Queens: The Essential History of Women in Hip-Hop).

YouTube has announced that they will celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop this year by launching the FIFTY DEEP campaign.This month marks 50 years since DJ Kool Herc performed at a party in the Bronx and showed off his DJing invention of scratching records to extend the instrumental breaks in the song. This revelation was the cornerstone for hip-hop as people could dance longer (evolving into breakdancing) and aspiring MCs could rap during song breaks.In honour of the musical milestone, YouTube has launched FIFTY DEEP, “a cultural campaign on YouTube that salutes how far [the genre] come.” Director of Black Music & Culture Tuma Basa wrote a blog post on the new campaign, saying that the mission “is for every generation to dig into the gems of YouTube’s archival treasury of Hip Hop.”They plan to fulfil their mission by collating a visual library of 2,000 videos that “have changed the game” for hip-hop music, having a custom Yoodle (YouTube’s version of the Google Doodle) to pay homage to the phenomenon of type beats, and creating a Google Arts & Culture Hip Hop Hub to collate “a wide range of cultural institutions’ collections and curated stories.”FIFTY DEEP will kick off this Friday (August 11) with a live stream of Hip-Hop 50 Live on Mass Appeal’s official YouTube channel.

Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Ice Cube and more have been announced to join Run-DMC on stage at the upcoming Hip Hop 50 Live concert in New York.In collaboration with Live Nation, the record label Mass Appeal – which is co-owned by New York rap legend Nas – have announced the full line-up for their upcoming one-off celebratory event, headlined by the trailblazing hip-hop group Run-DMC.“On the day it began in the Bronx, where it all started,” reads a description of the concert, which will take place on August 11 at New York’s Yankee Stadium.On Monday (June 5), Mass Appeal revealed the initial line-up for the special concert. Lil’ Kim has revealed that she wants to do a Verzuz battle with Nicki Minaj in an interview ahead of today’s BET Awards.Kim was asked on the red carpet at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater during a pre-show livestream whether she would participate in a Verzuz battle, to which she promptly replied “yes”.When she was asked if there was anybody in particular she would do it against, she answered “Nicki”.

Lil’ Kim has announced she will be publishing a memoir, The Queen Bee.The rapper penned the memoir with journalist and author Kathy Iandoli (God Save the Queens: The Essential History of Women in Hip-Hop).
