As of midnight, the Highway Code will change for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians in the UK. Many people still don't know about the changes, and face hefty fines if caught flouting the rules.
The gov.uk website has laid out a full list of the most important Highway Code rule changes all road users need to know about to avoid being fined thousands and getting points on their license. The hierarchy places those road users most at risk in the event of a collision at the top of the hierarchy. It does not remove the need for everyone to behave responsibly.
The new hierarchy of road users is as follows: The updated code will clarify that: A parallel crossing is similar to a zebra crossing, but includes a cycle route alongside the black and white stripes.
