The killings of 16-year-old Kennie Carter, 17-year-old Alan Szelugowski, and 20-year-old Dylan Keelan, over the last three consecutive weekends has shocked the Greater Manchester community.
All were victims of knife crime. The Manchester Evening News recently discovered figures which revealed serious youth violence offences have risen by 200 per cent in the city of Manchester alone in just two years.
Most urban police force areas saw a reduction in knife offences in 2020-21 due to the coronavirus lockdowns, but in Greater Manchester they went up 4 per cent. As a result of this, police have now said they are stepping up stop and search patrols this weekend in nine areas across the region.
