The House of Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle has banned the sale of alcohol and a time extension for votes to help parliament to operate during the coronavirus crisis.

It is understood that parliament is considering breaking early for its Easter recess to protect staff. Making a statement to MPs, Sir Lindsay outlined that some cafeterias and restaurants remain open on the parliamentary estate but added: "I can confirm that from today the sale of alcohol in the House of Commons catering venues has been suspended until further notice. "I actually took that decision on Friday evening."
