A teenage boy who flying kicked a 74-year-old man into a freezing river has said sorry to his victim. Benjamin Bridgeman, 18, filmed a video apology outside Warrington Magistrates Court today after pleading guilty to assault by beating in relation to the incident on April 25.

A 15-year-old co-accused, who can't be named for legal reasons, also pleaded guilty to common assault. It is thought the younger defendant filmed the shocking attack before posting it to Snapchat alongside a smiling emoji, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The footage shows the man being forcefully kicked as he stood on the banks of the River Mersey. As the victim floundered in the waters those responsible ran away, and laughing could be heard.
