Seven teenagers and a 20-year-old who chased another teen down and set upon him with machetes, an axe and a golf club have been spared custody and handed community sentences.
The victim, 17 at the time, suffered a head injury so serious his skull was exposed, a court was told. He also suffered wounds to his shoulders and legs in the attack.
All eight, however, have avoided custodial sentences - despite a judge saying they found their trial 'amusing'. Preston Crown Court heard the victim had gone to the mill, which was a popular meeting place for local teens, to look for a teenage girl, reports Lancs Live.
