Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc quit Great British Bake Off because cruel producers made 'contestants cry'

Sue Perkins has revealed why she and Mel Giedroyc resigned from The Great British Bake Off on the first day of filming.The 50 year old and Mel, 51, were on the show for six years between 2010 and 2016, hosting a total of seven series together, but were left unhappy after feeling it had become too cruel towards contestants.

In an interview, Sue explained: "We resigned, basically. Because it was not a kind show." In an attempt to describe exactly why the comedy duo believe the show's mood changed, she told the Radio Times magazine: "They were pointing cameras in the bakers’ faces and making them cry and saying, ‘Tell us about your dead gran.’ "So we had very stiff words about how we wanted to proceed.
