Sainsbury's has pledged to price match Aldi on hundreds of products in a bid to win back customers on the high street. The grocer has joined Tesco, which introduced a price-match in March 2020 and extended it to around 500 products in September. "It will help shoppers who are working hard to balance budgets," Sainsbury's said, firing up competition against the German discounter.
Prices will be cut on 250 essential items including fresh fruit, vegetables and dairy. For example, 'by Sainsbury's' plain flour will fall from 85p to 45p while a 225g 'by Sainsbury's' 21 day matured rump steak will cost £2.32 instead of £2.50.
