Jimmy Carr is back on Twitter following outrage at comments he made about the Holocaust. The comedian, 49, has been absent from Twitter since February 4, after a joke he made in his Netflix special, His Dark Material, sparked backlash.

The TV star was faced with protestors outside his gig after a joke he made targeted the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities.

He said that people ‘never mention the thousands of Gypsies killed by the Nazis’ because ‘no one wants to talk about the positives. ’Petitions were created as a result, with one started by The Traveller Movement reaching just under 20,000 signatures so far.

They urged the streaming platform to permanently remove the joke, describing it as ‘nothing short of a celebration of genocide. ’Posting his first tweet in three weeks, Jimmy shared a link to clips of him hosting TV special The Big Fat Quiz Of The 80s. ‘The 80’s were a strange strange time…’ he wrote.
