Premier League clubs are warning their players they will not be able to afford to spend big this summer. West Ham and Southampton are the only two clubs to have announced they have reached agreement on deferrals while several others are in deep discussions with players.

However, several clubs have told players they expect to see a big drop in their summer spending and they are being forced into making drastic savings during the coronavirus crisis.

It is becoming a matter of trust for the players who do not want to sign up for deferrals - only for the clubs then to spend big in the transfer market.
